Walls to Workstations (W2W) Announces Roadmap to Net Zero by 2035

At Walls to Workstations (W2W), we’re thrilled to share that we’ve taken a significant step forward on our environmental responsibility journey with a structured and measurable roadmap to Net Zero. In collaboration with environmental consultants from Tunley Environmental, we recently completed a comprehensive carbon assessment of our business activities for the baseline year 2023. This assessment lays the foundation for reducing our carbon emissions, guiding us toward achieving our Net Zero Carbon (NZC) target by 2035.

Understanding Our Carbon Footprint 🔍

Climate change and its effects are among the biggest challenges of our time, impacting natural systems, communities, and businesses. At W2W, we believe that responsible action starts with understanding the scale of our impact. Through rigorous methodology consistent with international standards (BS EN ISO 14064-1 and the GHG Protocol), Tunley Environmental quantified our emissions from the entire year, covering the period from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.

Our baseline carbon footprint totaled 5,569.1 tonnes of CO₂e (carbon dioxide equivalent), measured across three scopes:

  1. Scope 1: Direct emissions from company-controlled sources, like gas heating and fuel for our vehicles, accounted for 1.9% of our total emissions.
  2. Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity used across our facilities made up just 0.3% of the total.
  3. Scope 3: Indirect emissions from business operations, including materials, travel, and waste, made up the remaining 97.8% of our emissions.

Building a Path to Sustainability 🌱

Using the baseline data as a foundation, we’ve outlined several key initiatives to systematically reduce emissions by 34% by 2033. These initiatives focus on transitioning to renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and adopting sustainable materials.

Roadmap to NZC by 2035

Key Initiatives:

  1. Switch to Renewable Electricity (by 2025): Transitioning to a renewable electricity tariff will significantly cut down on Scope 2 emissions, lowering our footprint by 14.8 tCO₂e annually.
  2. Upgrade to Electric Heating Systems (by 2027): Implementing electric heating solutions, such as heat pumps, will reduce an additional 9.0 tCO₂e yearly.
  3. Shift to Electric Vehicles (by 2029): Replacing our fleet with electric vehicles will reduce fuel emissions by a substantial 94.0 tCO₂e each year.
  4. Use Recycled Materials (by 2031): By sourcing recycled materials for products, especially glass and furniture, we project a reduction of 1,792.7 tCO₂e per annum.

The Final Step: Carbon Offsetting 🌐

Our roadmap anticipates that by 2035 we will achieve Net Zero, meaning any remaining emissions will be offset through verified carbon credits from trusted sources, such as those offered by One Tribe, a leader in carbon credit procurement. This will help us responsibly offset unavoidable emissions, closing the gap to Net Zero.

Data Transparency and Accuracy 📊

We recognize that reliable data is essential for setting and achieving our sustainability goals. All emission calculations are based on high-accuracy data gathered by Tunley Environmental, evaluated using international standards for relevance, completeness, and reliability. Where data limitations existed, Tunley’s experts applied informed estimates to ensure a well-rounded analysis of our carbon footprint.
